i have this guy who plays same stakes as me ($6-$12 and $4-$8).
This guy is my nemesis. I just cant seem to put the screws on him. he beats me time after time in big pots. he is a SHITTY player against other players and trust me i pay attention on what he plays. but he just gets the best of me (not always, but on my big hands)
all hands are $6-$12 B&M
Hand 1:
Hero is UTG with KK
Villain is UTG+1
Preflop: Hero raises, Villain 3 bets, Hero caps
Flop: 4-7-10 2 club board
Hero bets, Villain raises, Hero 3 bets, Villain caps
Turn: 4-7-10-5
Hero bets, Villain raises, Hero calls
River:4-7-10-5-J
Villain bets, Hero calls.
Villain has A-A
a few hands later he got caught bluffing all the way with Q-6o on a board with possible flush and a straight !!
------------------------------
Hand 2: Kill pot $12-$24
Hero is UTG+1 with AQo
Villain is UTG+2
Hero raises, villain calls, everyone folds
Flop: Q-9-10 2 suit board
Hero bets, Villain raises, Hero calls
Turn: Q-9-10-5
Hero checks, Villain bets, hero calls
River: Q-9-10-5-K completes flush and straight
Hero checks, Villain bets, hero calls
villain has J-8s for flopped straight
day before yesterday he cracked my KK once and QQ once each by flopping a trip with junk (J-2, and 8-10o). I gave up KK on turn when there was 2 way action and called down with QQ heads up because i couldnt believe he could have trips against me back to back in space of 5 hands.
I have won some hands against him. but this is insane. Its like he always have a better hand against me. I see him calling down with SHIT against other players (bottom pair, middle pair, busted draws) but seems to beat me pulp when i have a good hand.
HOW WOULD YOU DEAL WITH IT ?
i guess the answer is "get over it"

In hand 2 I would either bet or check/raise the turn. Check/calling that board sucks.

I don't know anything about having a nemesis
Seriously though just enjoy it. Competition makes you better.

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

here is my reasoning for my action on hand 2.
I thought if he has 2 pair he has me beat now. if he has a jack i will let him bet the whole way and beat him. either way by check calling i get to showdown cheapest possible way.
however, the call on the river was bad because, the flush draw, straight draw all got there and i didnt improve. its a kill pot HU, if he reraises me on the turn, i have to drop it right there and not seek showdown correct ??

My advice: get this guy's name and take him out to lunch. Seriously.

Not a horrible idea, actually.

You have the best hand here a lot and unless he bluffs the river, you won't get more value out of him after the turn. Finally, I really don't want to give a free card here. Would he 3-bet the turn with a weaker hand?

LOL @ euphorism and Andy. thanks for the laughs.
I think it could be a case of selective memory retention thing also. The very very next hand after the AQo hand i raised again where i was UTG with QQ (calling out loud "STEAM RAISE") and it was heads up again with Villain. board was 5-5-6-2-10 and villain went to showdown with A-2. maybe it was suited but i am not sure. anyways. maybe he folds a lot to my bets on the river unimproved and i am only remmebering the bad beats and not the countless times i beat him . now THERE is the happy thought LOL.

"Would he 3-bet the turn with a weaker hand" . You are right on the money Fnord. and I understand your point. But at that point, i was taking it personal.
My feelings were (note to myself, dont attach feelings in poker. use maths.. ) that if i bet the turn and he raised i would be hardpressed to call again on the river. and if i folded i would be wondering if he bluffed me out of the pot this time.
in live game, when you play each other so many times a week (i go there every day), sometimes things get personal. its like i wanted to GO to showdown with him regardless of the board ( i realise how stupid i sound when is say that..).
its just that i was frustrated about my tangles with him in the past few days. I was winning every single session (till yesterday) at $6-$12 but when it came to him, he BEAT ME ON EVERY BIG POT regardless of his poor holdings.

Hence, against a player capable of making a semi-bluff 3-bet because he knows I can fold and if I decide that I must show this down then I would bet/call. Probably the line I would use against one of you guys because I suspect I would often get a raise out of a worse hand or just maybe for some freakish reason you might even take a free card if offered (raising the flop for a free card is sooo last year.) Meh, on second thought maybe I would just check/raise...

interesting theory.
"raising the flop for a free card is sooo last year."....lol...i am SO GUILTY of it. i raise my middle pair with Ace kicker with abandon, and works about 80 - 90 % of the time. but people are catching on to it. they are three betting and leading out on the turn.

Nah the current hip internet-TAgg trend is to raise the flop on a strong draw then auto-bet the turn. Hence I like the check/raise...

Then cap the flop to get checked to on the turn. Higher level thinking at work here folks...
