I do pretty well at Razz and its one of my favorite games. However, after getting screwed multiple times and called down by fish at both pstars and Tilt I have decided to switch it up slightly. I had been raising with a23 as my first three or anything close to that but after getting screwed so many times im going to start calling and only raising when im close to 80 percent to winnning the hand. This cant be the best way to play but the way these sights leave me hanging with like A234445 or 2345kkq and im talking like every time, and losing to like jack high, its ridiculous. So I would like to hear what you all have to say, but im gonna give it a try in the horse buy in later at stars as well as the razz tourney.

I have played around with razz many times and it can be one of the most upsetting games out there. I have also had many times that my awsome hand got taken down by crap. But my advice is to continue to play your game and don't change it because of bad beats. They will happen but it is just as bad to not get full value out of your good hands to make those bad beats not as painful to your BR. In limit games it is very important to build the pot with your good hands early. Are you also watching every card that goes into the muck? I only ask because my biggest problem when I started with Razz was not keeping track of those cards and thinking that my outs were still all there when they had been mucked. All in all Razz is a very difficult game to have an actual good winrate at IMO.
Example:
You get 2345..... You have seen a,a,6,7,8,6 go into the muck from other peoples hands.

On a side note it is my favorite round in a horse tourn becasue there are very few players that actually know how to play it well. Especially when the blinds get really high.

I agree I still want to raise the pot and get value in in it but im not gonna reraise as much and I am going to hold back preflop a bit. I mean everytime I lose a hand I start out ahead, now I still plan on being aggressive early because its not so costly. ITs usually one or two crap hands that luck me out late. I agree it is the best round of the horse tourney to make your stacks big, personally I try to avoid the Holdem and Stud rounds except for the monster hands. I stick to razz, and the two hi lo games to build my stack usually. Not that I suck at holdem but that round is just way too lose.
I would rather have a bottle in front of me then a frontal labotomy

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
Playing passively as you suggested is not a great way to go IMO, you will only compound the 'bad beats' since more people will chase will crap. Review those hands you lost (and some that you won) and post them here
If they are indeed bad beats it is part of the game, good players take much more bad beats then bad players, you need to accept this as part of the game

One thing about razz that people often forget is if you raise with your starting hand, then raise on 4th, you've built the pot so that calling the later bigger bets is not as bad odds as if you had a smaller pot. Sometimes, I will raise to start, then check the 4th (depends on the cards ofcourse), then raising the big bet makes even dumb players realize HEY, it's not worth it!

I stand by this. There is a lot of strategy involed in Razz but you are still somewhat at the mercy of the cards and the other players bad decisions. If these players call everything no matter what, then in the long run you should come out ahead by playing your good hands. I have felt the way you do before, but I came to realize that I just remember the times I lost after being way ahead much better than the times I won after already being ahead. It's a mental thing.
