nothing wrong with trying for the C/R on the flop.

Villain shows JJ?

Villain had JJ.

I'm not sure there's anything I can do about that. I notice that he called the river.
I'm never sure how far to go in these cases.

It seems to me that if I always bet these to the max I'll be ahead in the long run.
But then does AQ bet the river like this?
Blah blah Op Blah blah

why does ssh recommend that you fold 22-66 in EP? should I be calling with these or what.

The 5 bet cap confuses me so I don't know if I would do it. but 3 bet for sure.

You certainly didn't do anything foolish, though limping ep w 55 is going to be wrong unless the game is noticeably on the loose passive side.

One thing stands out, though--it's highly unlikely a 1/2 player would check this flop the way mp did. Very often the check here means a made hand, though with two broadway cards, two to a straight, and two to a flush, it's a dumb play. The chances are decent, given the coordinated flop, that he'll get calls, and given the flop, does he really want to give two opponents a free shot at picking up draws, or the first halves of backdoor straights or flushes? It's not like he flopped a full house, or a set on a board of J62 rainbow. So his check is dumb, but fairly obvious.

(btw, if he checked because he missed the flop with something like Ah Th, you wouldn't have gotten the action you did on the river, as I'm sure you realize. You can rule that out as soon as he raises.)

So--approach with caution. While occasionally people check the flop in this situation with TPTK, it's usually a set, trips or better. Once he four-bets the river, you're probably toast, but putting in one more bet wasn't horrendous, by any stretch--just a little ... overoptimistic.

You don't want to end up in a raised pot, out of position, against 1 or 2 opponents.

In this hand Hero got about 3/1 for his bets pre-flop, on a hand that will hit the flop 1 time in 8. To make this situation profitable, when our set hits we have to win back the 7BB (from the 7 other times we called a raise, missed the flop and folded) plus a few more bets to cover the rake and the times that your set gets busted.

Of course this is just about the worst case scenario, but hopefully it highlights why SSH recommends folding small PP in early position on tight tables.

For the record, this hand postflop isn't the reason why you don't want to limp those pairs in EP. It's because it costs too much when you don't hit.
