How was the preflop call?
How do you usually play ATo with no reads?

Once I hit top pair, was it right to call down?

Thanks in advance.

So it would probably have been a better move to fold preflop?

I raise preflop,
I raise the turn,
I check behind the river unimproved if I am feeling weak.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Why is raising the turn not a better move? I think I've got the best hand here and that SB likely has K+pair or T+pair picking up gutshot to nut straight, weak pair+flush draw, or maybe A+x and picked up top pair weaker kicker than yours. I think the chance he spiked a second pair or has A+better kicker is very low, and I'm not too worried about him already having a straight or two pair. I bet he'll call your flop raise and probably call the river too. Also, I like putting pressure on the button forcing him to call two bets if he wants to stick around with his weak holding.

I thought the turn was a striaghtforward raise.

It would be a straightforward raise in a bigger pot. As-is it's a funny spot where I really don't like folding, nor am I too keen on raising, so I would just call.

File this under "spots I don't get into very often because of my playing style"

heh, ATo is just one of those hands. Raise preflop or fold preflop, really nothing inbetween. Open limping is the worst.
<Staxalax> Honestly, #flopturnriver is the one thing that has improved my game the most.
