Don't know about you all, but I absolutely HATE the idea that the lowest card showing has to bring in the startng bet. I never ran into that until I started playing online. Home and casino games I played were always set up that the HIGH card had the option to start the betting. Just as an example I had to bring in the last 3 hands with crap I would never play otherwise.

Seems to me that having the low card start the betting (and with no option to check, either) is forcing someone to play what is more than likely a loosing hand. Not fair.

Another thing. I sat down at Royal Vages' 5 stud table an hour and a half ago. Since that time I've seen 4 streights and 2 flushes. I've played 5 stud a LONG time and I've never seen that many big hands in such a short time. I mean, we're talking about a game where a high pair is usualy a winner and trips are a monster. Go figure.

It's just another blind to juice the pot and make loose play closer to correct. Big pots mean more rake.

low card bring-in makes sense when there is no ante, as in AC and some vegas casinos. otherwise there's nothing in the pot.

but i don't like it when there's already an ante.

i also don't like how some online casinos don't give the bring-in the option to raise. that's really dumb. in a B&M casino the bring-in must bet 1/2 SB but has the option to bet a complete SB.

I think the idea is that it's less intimidating to enter a pot when the lowest door card is the first to enter, so this format favors a more exciting game with more action.
