I understand that 300 BBs is the standard requirement for moving up to the next level but what's the standard range in which you decide to drop back down and "take shots" at a higher level? I hear that taking a 100BB swing isn't uncommon which means that dropping down at 200BB isn't an option (unless I want to be up and down like a yo-yo) but I don't want to say 150BB and basically have to lose half my roll before moving down. Thanks guys.

elipsesjeff is an unknown quantity at this point
Are we talking 6 max or full ring?

6 max its common to have 500 BB to play at a certain level, but I could see taking shots at 400 BB of the next level.

Full Ring is no where near as high variance so anywhere from 300-500 BB is fine, I've always been a huge BR nit so I always think bigger is better.

whats your standard deviation and winrate? We can work out your own personal requirement based on these figures.

Edit: based on 6-max
300BB is nowhere near enough in most cases, I personally go by 400BB for 2/4 and below, 600BB for 3/6 to 10/20, and after that I think you really need around 800BB to be safe (not that I've played higher than 10/20 enough to know ) .

I could probably cope with less than the 400BB at 1/2 downwards but I like to have a "tilt-prevention cushion".

I personally try to factor in enough variance so that my BR doesn't take a "hit" when the variance kicks in. Right now I'm on FR since Party doesn't start any 6-max games until $0.50c-$1.

I think 500BB is looking like the number I'll be going with (which means I really should drop down a level) since both of you seem to say that the bigger the roll in Limit the better.
