After looking at some blind play I've got to make a post on this. Whats suitable to play from the BB facing a steal? SB? How about stealing situations? In truthful, it depends on your opponents. In order to make your life a lot easier, I'm going to show everyone what some common blind defense and offense plays are as well as how to defend against them.
First off, the obvious blind steal:
Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (7 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is CO with T , 9 .
3 folds, Hero raises, 3 folds.
Final Pot: 1.83 BB
Results in white below:
No showdown. Hero wins 1.83 BB.
But, wheres the skill?
2) Against a Caller:
Party Poker (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is SB with 7 , T .
7 folds. Hero Raises, BB calls.
Flop: J , K , J (2 players) Hero Bets.
BB folds.
Final Pot:
Results in white below:
No showdown.
Wow, still not that difficult.
3) When to Call Down against an aggressive player:
Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (4 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is Button with T , 6 .
1 fold, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, BB calls, Hero calls.
Flop: (9 SB) T , 2 , J (3 players)
SB bets, BB folds, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, Hero calls.
Turn: (7.50 BB) 5 (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.
River: (9.50 BB) K (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.
Final Pot: 9.50 BB
Results in white below:
Hero has Ts 6h (one pair, tens).
SB has 3c 3s (one pair, threes).
Outcome: Hero wins 9.50 BB.
Being too aggressive will hurt you.
4) Reads will work too:
Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (3 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is Button with 5 , Q .
Hero raises, SB calls, 1 fold.
Flop: (5 SB) 7 , 6 , 2 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.
Turn: (3.50 BB) K (2 players)
SB bets, Hero raises, SB folds.
Final Pot: 6.50 BB
Results in white below:
No showdown. Hero wins 6.50 BB.
5) If you think your opponent will fold, pure aggression will win most pots, when they can't, hope to get lucky:
Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (3 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is Button with 7 , 6 .
Hero raises, 1 fold, BB calls.
Flop: (4.66 SB) 4 , 2 , T (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.
Turn: (3.33 BB) 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.
River: (5.33 BB) 7 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.
Final Pot: 7.33 BB
Results in white below:
Hero has 7d 6d (one pair, sevens).
BB has Jd Kh (high card, king).
Outcome: Hero wins 7.33 BB.
6) The new kind of blind steal going around:
Party Poker (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is SB with K , 3 .
8 folds, Hero limps, BB checks.
Flop: 9 , 6 , 2 (2 players) Hero Bets
BB folds.
Final Pot:
Results in white below:
No showdown.
7) When to fold using the same play:
Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (5 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is SB with T , Q . MP posts a blind of $15.
1 fold, MP (poster) checks, 1 fold, Hero completes, BB checks.
Flop: (3 SB) 4 , 9 , 5 (3 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, MP raises, Hero calls.
Turn: (3.50 BB) K (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets, Hero folds.
Final Pot: 4.50 BB
Results in white below:
No showdown. MP wins 4.50 BB.

I don't like this play at all...Way too often somebody limps in with a hand that I would have folded to a steal and lets me hit a flop and then take a lot more money from them....

SB bets, Hero raises, SB calls.
Turn: (3 BB) K (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.
River: (5 BB) 4 (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.
Final Pot: 7 BB
Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (6 max, 3 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is BB with 4 , 6 .
1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks.
Flop: (2 SB) A , 4 , 4 (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.
Turn: (2 BB) 2 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.
River: (2 BB) 8 (2 players)
SB bets, Hero raises, SB folds.
Final Pot: 5 BB

i'm not saying I dont agree with you, but its very common 'out there.' I much prefer raising than limping in. Its also very common in the 2+2 circles...
Edit: You'll also be surprised at how successful it can be.

I've been seeing this annoying play constantly lately. I thought there must have been a Card Player article on it or something.

Ive been using that "new" steal a lot, and i didnt even know it was a trend.
I dont do it all the time, but once in a while to change things up. IMO used rarely its very effective, from what ive found far fewer players play back at you when you limp/steal. More often than not they give you credit for hitting part of the flop or even slowplaying a big hand and wont play back against your bet where as raising preflop may set of "steal" signals in their head and make them fiercely defend.
I dont do it often, but with the right frequency its a nice weapon in your blind stealing aresenal

Yeah, it was effective against me until it started happening like 20 times a day. I've started trying it too- it's good against aggro blind defenders.

seems like a NL move adapted to limit games. when you're heads up, your opponent will miss the flop 2/3 of the time. so if you bet first, he ought to fold 2/3 of the time, making this a +EV move.
