At what level does everyone believe that the rake is beatable in LHE? I play a live game at 2/4 and 4/8 and I am somewhat profitable. The other night I played for about 4 hrs, thought I played pretty well, and made just 1.5BB/hr. Is this a decent profit? Is this a product of the rake? It seemed like I was taking in two large pots an hour. The game was pretty easy, there was one other player who obviously knew what he was doing and the others were tourists on the 4th of July weekend. I really enjoy playing live, meeting knew ppl, actually having a chance to read someone, and actually having to work on my own game. However, as time and effort goes, I make more online, don't have to tip a dealer, and don't feel bad about making dummy plays. Making 24 bucks in 4 hrs seems like a bit of a waste of time, but maybe I am wrong, maybe that's a decent profit? Can anyone tell me what a good play should be making per hr in a limit game. Just curious. Thanks for any help.

100/hr is good but yeah, 4/8 is where the rake begins to minimize itself, 8/16+ is when the rake gets relatively small... 15/30 the rake structure is pretty fair.

At 2/4 live, the rake (including tip and jackpot drop) will essentially eat you alive, making these games unprofitable. 4/8 the rake is less killer, but still big. 4/8 can be profitable though (especially when compared to 2/4).

4 hours at one table is such a tiny sample size that there's no way to predict your long-term win-rate by using this win-rate. 1.5BB/hr over 4 hours is meaningless.

This is a much better indicator of your profit than the numbers you gave above, and it probably means your long-term winrate is a positive number.

Ok. Well is there an Equation for Win/Loss? Say I play a 3/6 game. and have been averaging just a shade over 3bb an hour. With nearly 200 hours of sample time. (By my best estimation.) 40 Hands per hour at a 10% rake cap of $3. Plus a $1 tip on average.

I know I'm not losing to the rake, because I still have a bankroll. But how do you plug all of those numbers into an equation to know whether or not you're losing money?
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

Those tables are just the old Bad Beat Jackpot tables with a new name....Nothing really changed except that slightly more people are playing them today because of the new name, but that will definately change pretty soon. Also, less than 2/4 doesn't even offer the monster tables...

How bad are your opponents playing? Against terrible opponents you can beat a bigger rake.

How good is your seat? Position on a donator can give you a sick edge.

Are you winning lots of small pots or a few big ones? Under an oppressive rake, tighter games just aren't as beatable because you get hammered with every little pot you steal.
