help here. i had a grandfather that, a long time ago, loved to play "lowball 5 card draw" and "jacks or back (to low)." therefore, i learned to look for low hands, but in a different way; thus, confusing me at times in O8.

for instance, in my grandfathers games, straights were straights...they couldnt share the low pot, too. and i think they counted down the ties differently, but i'm not exactly sure.

heres an O8 example i just dealt to myself. i realize that the likelihood of a HU pot in O8 is rare at low stakes, but still it brought up a question in determining WHO wins the low.

hand 1... Ah 2h
hand 2... 2c 6s i left out the other cards for relevancy.

board... 7c 9c 4s 4d 3d

does hand 1 win with 7 4 3 2 A
or
does hand 2 win with 7 6 4 3 2

is 76 lower .........nevermind. 74 beats 76 everytime in low, yes?

i dont know why that confused me. just a simple yes will do, and we can let this thread die off into oblivion where it belongs.

I understand what you mean Pel but just to clarify there has to be 3 other cards 8 or lower out there, pretty sure Chopper understands that but the trolls probably don't.

btw there are two systems of 'low.... the old fashioned low known as 7-2 low, where aces count as high and straights and flushes count against you. basically it's just poker reversed. and there's A-5 low, which is just the numerical low, with aces playing high and low. this is the most popular form of low nowadays, and used in almost all the split games, and razz.

def the old-fashioned variety i was referring to.

i assume the 2-7 triple draw uses the same concept as the "old" variety?

2-7 triple draw is the old variaty, it is called 2-7 since the best possible hand is 2-3-4-5-7
