Next: Should I have raised on river vs LAA? Board is not scary.
I could have tried a check-raise on flop or turn.

Hand 1: Straightforward top pair hand. I doubt you were facing AA, so AJ or J9 are probably your big threats.

Hand 2: 3 to a flush on the river can be a bit scary. You would probably have been better check/calling the flop and checkraising the turn, or possibly checkraising the flop.

By betting out in early position on the flop you give most drawy hands the odds to call it down. That's fine on the flop with an uncoordinated board, but the turn opens up two possible draws, and you want to chase them out if you can, or make them pay if you can't.

So given that you are first to act, I'd probably check-call the flop and checkraise the river. At the micro levels with that many people in the pot someone is bound to bet out for you.

Thanks. I see your point about giving them the odds to draw out. I'm not so sure someone would have bet for me, they were a passive lot.

Yeah, check-calling or checkraising can backfire if they all check behind, but it works more often than it doesn't. Nobody was expecting you to have a set of 3s, so top pair or even overcards would likely bet out. If nobody bet out on the flop then you should bet the turn, just to get some value in there.
