Went to play some live poker this weekend for the first time in almost a year. Played the 4-8 half kill with overs table, which is the highest stakes available here in limit. The table was juicy. Lots of regulars, but average to the flop was >5, and very loose/passive both pre and post flop. (money, money, money, money). Was up a little over $350 after 6 hrs. I was starting to get tired, but stuck around because the table was down to 5-handed where I really have an advantage as I am at my best at a short table. One guy at teh table I knew, but hadn't played with before. He used to deal at that casino, but now works at a different one. He got them to change the blinds to just a small blind, and I said we should get a reduced rake too (which they will do 5 handed or smaller for a max rake of $1 with no jackpot drop). That would have been sweet, $1 out of each pot instead of $5, but everyone else wanted a chance at the jackpot. I mentioned that 5 handed was about 1/4 the chance of a badbeat as a full table, but they didn't care.
Well, I ran bad while we played about 2 hours short, and ended up down $100 for the night. I really only made 2 mistakes. 1: I didn't leave once I was tired. 2: I didn't give back my overs button when we were down to 4 players. I don't have the bankroll to play 12/24, and 4-handed with the half-kill coming up 1/4 hands, and a higher chance of the overs kicking in, I really shouldn't have played the overs. Even though the short handed game was juicy, with the other 3 guys playing about 70% of hands, the rake sucks short handed, and being tired as well, I should have left.
There were about 5 key hands while we were playing short. The first, which was a big blow to my stack, was a kill pot against the other guy that had an over button. I had KJo, and flopped OESFD with 89T of hearts. I was OOP, the flop got capped, with only me and the other overs guy in, and I bet the turn J (possibly another mistake), and he raised and I called. River came a heart to give me a flush, and I bet, got raised and called, and he showed the nut flush. Down about 135 that hand.
Next 2 were nice 3-barrel bluffs on my part. The guy I knew layed down pocket 33 the first time, and I showed A8s, high-card A. He made a comment that he thought I was a better player than that (he's seen me play before and knows I'm pretty good), I said I won the pot, so maybe I am a better player. A couple hands later, I have AQo, raise pf, chris bets a 269 rainbow flop, I raise, other guy folds. He checks turn blank, I bet, he calls. He checks river blank, I bet, he thinks for about a minute, talking about how he doesn't think he can lay down a pair because I'm probably bluffing again. He turns over his cards (72c), thinks a while longer, then folds. On the flop and river I had said I had nothing but it was better than his nothing so I was going to bet. In the end, he just didn't believe I'd pull the same thing on him twice in a row. The real beauty was the third hand, about 20 mins later, where I had K3o in the SB, flopped a K, bet the flop, bet the turn, then chris raises me on the river. Easy call with TP HU, and he turns over a pair of 7s and I win again.
The last was towards the end, and was pretty annoying. It was a kill pot, and a guy wins the 300+ pot with Q7s for the flush. What was annoying is that I had QQ, and this guy called 2 cold preflop, then called 2 cold on the flop with nothing but an over card and a back door flush draw.
Over all a fun night, I just wish I had left when I was up big and getting tired. My biggest problem with playing live is not leaving when I'm getting tired.

At an overs table, you can get an overs button from the dealer. If, at the beginning of a betting round, all players left in the hand have an overs button, the stakes are doubled for the rest of the hand. So, at the 4/8 half-kill, the overs would be 8/16 in a normal pot, and 12/24 in a kill pot.
