Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with A , Q .
UTG calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, MP1 calls, 4 folds, SB calls, 1 fold, UTG calls.
Flop: (9 SB) 6 , 5, 8 (4 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls, SB folds, UTG calls.
Turn: (6 BB) A (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, MP1 folds, UTG raises, Hero...
First question: should I have bet the flop? I'd like to find out what's facing my overcards. I set myself up for a c/r I suppose but for a few hands the table has been passive and fishy. No specific reads though I'm about to get one.
Second question: what to do about the little surprise on the turn...

I would check the flop and against most players I fold that turn. Others are aggressive enough that I look them up.

I guess I got too pushy on the flop, perhaps especially on that 2-suited, 2-1/2-connected flop.
Do you mean check/fold or bet/fold the turn?
How about if I had checked the flop? I would now bet the turn and--I guess--fold when raised.
