I really feel like I'm ahead on the turn here. This makes the pot too big to fold on?

You got to bet this flop bro.

I don't see how this pot can possibly be "too big" to fold, particularly after the flop is checked through.

I don't think he's raising the turn without a pair but if you're going to continue you should call down. 3-betting Ace high in a small pot readless is much too aggressive. I'm folding that river, he's still betting after you 3-bet the turn - you are never winning this.

Also, can you explain your reasoning behind checking the flop?

My thinking is that this is clearly a battle of overcards, and as long as he hasn't got a Jack my overcards are better?

i.e. I'm thinking there's a 1 in 9 chance he would bet without a jack there.

Why? I see sets check behind all the time, he also could have a small pair and smell weakness.

I dunno ... just kind of a feeling. I had been folding quite a bit and got the sense that people in general, this guy in particular, were trying to push me off hands.

(incidentally I was right; it was an overcard battle ... how 'bout that last call, then?)

given the way you played the turn, bet/fold the river.

If you bet the flop and get raised, what's your line?

bet/call, check/call, check/fold if you dont improve?

Call and go from there. Being out of position sucks.

Quite often this hand goes something like this:

I bet, he calls
brick turn
I bet, he folds

Yeah. You HAVE to bet this flop.

The typical line would be to bet the flop, if he calls, bet the turn, if he calls the turn, you can usually check/fold the river. 99% of the time your opponent will fold this to you.

This is usually my standard play for hands I raised preflop and missed. Sometimes I may even bet the river, depending on the player. Other times I know I'm going to get a call down with any pair so I don't even bother betting the turn.

But like everyone has been saying, you can NOT check this flop.

Bet the flop. If you check the flop, fold the turn. If you raise the turn, bet the river. If you check the river, call, 'cuz you might as well see what he has.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

I see people raising on the turn all the time as semi-bluffs, especially with flush draws. When there's a possible flush draw (or other draw, but flush is the most popular) on the board and I get raised on the turn, 75% of the time these jackasses have the flush draw.

The flashing neon light? The call after the three bet. The jackass who caps the flush draw is a rare beast indeed.

So, put us out of suspense? What did the other person have?

I love flopping a two flush board and watching the donks cold-call two or three.. they just SCREAM flush draw don't they?

In other news, I hate when they hit.
