I figured UTG for A(Q,J,T) based on early entry without a raise and didn't want to scare him off the Ace with a flop raise in the case the kicker was lower rather than higher. Figured in that case he'd call the flop raise, but check/fold the turn if he didn't improve. I wanted to save the raise for the turn where I was pretty sure nothing was going to hurt me.

Thoughts?

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 7, 7.
UTG calls, 2 folds, Hero calls, 4 folds, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (4 SB) A, 7, 5 (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG bets, Hero calls, SB folds, BB folds.

Turn: (3 BB) Q (2 players)
UTG bets, Hero raises, UTG calls.

River: (7 BB) Q (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, UTG calls.

Final Pot: 9 BB

Results in white below:
UTG has Td Ac (two pair, aces and queens).
Hero has 7c 7s (full house, sevens full of queens).
Outcome: Hero wins 9 BB.

The appropriate place to slowplay trips is NLHE tables.
BTW this is a set.

Standard.
The flop call is fine since there are 2 players left to act who may over-call, and no flush or str8 draws.
The turn raise is perfect since the blinds folded.
River is obvious.
Well played.

The only argument I have is putting UTG limper on an A.
an UTG limp is usually a suited connector or a pocket pair.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Then and only then? Why not here? A raise on the flop might not scare him off on the turn, but if it does it costs me 2.5 BB.

But this is a set so you can go ahead and slow play it unless you're going up against someone who will 3-bet you with TPGK.

Ahhh... Good points. I don't even think I considered the overcalls while playing the hand. The UTG point is also well taken. Thanks for the comments.

It never occurred to me that trips and a set weren't synonomous until just now. Thanks for pointing that out.

Some people consider them the same, but I prefer to differentiate because a set is a stronger hand than trips.

I looked in the back of SSH and they do differentiate in the same way you do, with trips defined as two up and one down.
