I'm thinking of heading to the B&M, and taking a seat in a $20/40 game tonight for my first time. I'm a little apprehensive because I'd prefer to spend another year playing $10/20 before moving up. Also the $20/40 game will likely be a kill game so that has me hesitating a little too (ok, make that a little more than a little).
I've been playing lots of B&M $10/20 kill lately and doing quite well. The games have ranged from tight & aggressive to pretty soft. Also, I've been running really well lately (cards etc.), and haven't suffered a losing session in a while. So, if my luck happens to recede tonight, I don't really feel like suffering that defeat at double the stakes that I'm used to. I would prefer to just play $10/20 tonight, but the Casino I'm likely heading to rarely can get a $10/20 game going. My only other option is a $3/6 $500-max no-limit game, but I'm kinda in the mood for some limit tonight.
So, any words of advice, or encouragement? Or should I just go to the other Casino and continue to work on my game in $10/20 kill?

I like 20/40.
Is it full kill or half kill? Is it raked or timed?
My 20/40 game is a lot crazier agressive than 10/20, so I guess play tight and get good reads before you open up. Good luck.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Kill Games are very common in B&M cardrooms.
A kill pot occurs in a kill game when the same player wins two hands in a row of a minimum size (usually 5BBs)
In a full kill, the stakes double during a kill pot, and the "killer" has to post an amount equal to one SB(now double the bb). The bb and sb still post the normal amounts.
In most kill games, action goes around the table as normal pre flop, except the "killer" is last to act for this first betting round. He can then choose to check or raise.
A half kill is the same, except usually at 10/20 and higher the stakes only go up to 1.5 times the normal stakes hence the "half"
The difference between rake and time is most small games are raked at 10% up to a cap of 3 or 4 dollars.
Most bigger games charge "time" of 5 to 10 dollars per half hour, per player, depending on the limits and the card room.
