My plan to c/r the safe turn card got pwnt. Do you default to the clarkmeister donk bet? I think what I did, calling down, is the worst option.

Clarkmeister only works if you can fold to a raise. It is only useful if you might fold out a better hand. No better hand is folding here. check/call.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.
