Hi folks
In NL it seems that lots of people want to get left of the big stacks, for obvious reasons.
However, I notice in LHE when two or more seats are available most players also will chose the seat left of the largest stack.
If I am scouting a LHE table for a bit, I try to get left of the most loose/aggressive player. I am thinking (1) that I don't want him to keep raising when I only want to limp (or 3 betting when I won't call), and (2) if I am just left of him I can re-reraise to isolate, and (3) I have position on him.
Is my thinking wrong here? Should I be looking more at who has most cash rather than stye of play? Many players with lots of cash at the tables are tight campers, so what's the advantage of being left in that situation?

You know I dont even worry about it.
Currently at 5/10, i just sit on the waiting list for tables of 7 players and above and sit anywhere. If you have previous notes on a rock or a Tag, then try and get position on him. However, it can also be profitable to give the rock position on you too, you can push him around a little and its easy to know when he has the nuts.

I strongly believe this is one of the most over-looked elements in poker and certainly more important than if you raise/limp KQ/AJ UTG or other such fine points that get discussed at length.
Consider this:
o Money at a poker table tends to run clockwise. (per Mike Caro)
o All but the absolute fishiest players actually play tighter against raises. Now that might mean 20% of hands vs 50%, but it's important. I want them in the hand when I pick up the big hand and trap them for extra bets post-flop.
o Being able to check a med pocket pair or naked ace behind a calling station is very profitable.
o If a bunch of FTR regulars sat down, I have serious doubts about my ability to beat the rake.
Hence, having position on the "donators" is huge. I think it's the difference between a marginally profitable situation and a hugely profitable situation.
My short-handed game is strong enough that I tend to find tables via number of players instead of wasting my time with wait lists (only to find by the time I get there the fish are bust and the TAggs have taken their place.) Also, it gives me a choice of seats and I have a knack for making a pretty quick and accurate guess as to who is spewing chips.

Heh, i dont disagree, but i usually just want to god damn play and dont feel like trudging 30 mins to find an open seat at some random table. ALL of the 5/10 tables are filled, with people on the waiting list at each one. Joining the site waiting list has done me pretty well and i usually find a few tables that are pretty fishy.

No full 5/10 tables left would explain a lot of what I'm seeing. Such a problem doesn't exist for the Party 2/4 and 3/6 games, hence my table selection method. I almost never end up at a TAggy table that way and quite often I'll have all the big fishermen join and take the place of the busted fish. Then I leave, rinse and repeat.

Does this mean you join as low as 6-7 players, Fnord?
