I got a lot of criticsm for the way I played this hand today at Hustler, which resulted in, in a sense, the worst beat I have ever taken at a poker table (and one for which there is no jackpot because both cards have to play). I should note that this hand was EXTREMELY difficult to play, because the other players at the table got so obsessed about a possible jackpot (as I said, the jackpot was actually IMPOSSIBLE) that they were speculating aloud about the players' hands, which of course could have influenced the play if the players had not in fact had exactly what they did have.
In any event, here goes:
Hero is in the CO with Ac6s. The small blind is a calling station, the big blind is a nit, and there is 1 limper in front of Hero, a guy in UTG+1 who plays too many hands pre-flop but who is fit or fold post-flop.
Hero raises, folds to the SB, who calls, BB and UTG+1 call.
Flop is Ts8s7s. Checks to Hero. I fire a c-bet, hoping I can perhaps take the pot down or get a free card if someone calls me. SB and BB call, UTG+1 folds.
Turn is 9s. Checks to Hero. Well, now I have the second nuts. I bet. SB raises, BB folds, I 3-bet, SB calls.
River is 9c. SB bets, I raise, SB 3-bets, I call.
SB had Js5s.
Interestingly, this is the first time I have ever hit a straight flush in a live hand. So I am now 0 for 1 in live straight flushes. How many people can say that?
In any event, everyone at the table went after me on this one (which, by the way, pissed me off because they were talking throughout the hand in a way that could influence the betting, and there wasn't even a jackpot possible, and also because I had just taken this horrible beat). They said it was obvious to them that it was straight flush over straight flush, and I shouldn't have raised the river. And perhaps it was. I raised the river because I thought he might also have the Ace of spades or even a boat or quads.

There's way too many boats/non straight flush flushes possible to not keep raising.
Don't listen to the fish. They are like people who watch poker on tv and tell you it's obvious what the "right" move is when they can see everyone's cards.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

even with the paired board, the As may jam that thing, too, thinking HE has the nuts.
it wasnt obvious that you both had the str8flush. in fact, it would still be extremely rare if it was.

Fold pre. You have a holding you want to get HU against UTG+1 and even then, it's suspect. With a station on your left, the odds of you getting into a favorable HU situation is not good should he choose to call.
As played, fine until river...cap that. Be happy you're played with the leash that is limit poker.
Can't believe SB didn't cap the turn.

fyi, in live limit, there is no cap heads up. so, obviously, if i 4-bet, he's gonna 5-bet. what then?
and one of the reasons i stopped was all the table talk. since everyone was saying "straight flush over straight flush is a jackpot" (even though it wasn't one) made me think that villain was going to stop with anything other than the jack of spades, because the chatter would call his attention to and get him scared of the SF.
but it's interesting the difference between the GOOD players here, who recommend keeping on going, and the BAD players at the table, who were outraged that i didn't fear the monsters under the bed

FYP. Good to know though. I'm still 4-betting but might just call the 7th or so if it gets that far.

Those people would have berated you for not 4betting river if villain had showed quads....
