I'm still sucking big time at 2/4 limit (now at -3.4BB/hour over 60 hours in casino). Played my one game for this month yesterday, lost $101 in 3.6 hours. Anyhoo, I'll try and post some hands that I remember, looking for feedback.

10 handed, passive table. No read on Button (her 3rd hand).

I'm MP3 with AJsuited. 4 callers, I raise, CO folds, button calls, everyone else calls.

Flop: A A 10 (none of my suit)

Checked to me, I bet, button raises, everyone folds, I call.

Turn: A A 10 6

I check, button bets, I call.

River: A A 10 6 Q

I check, button bets, I call.

You have trip aces and a good kicker and you just check/call all the way down? She is more likely raising his pair of tens there than aces so check/raise her ass on the turn.

Seriously? AK, AQ, A10 and 1010 all have me beat on the flop; am I being too paranoid of these hands? This was my last hand of the night and by this time my confidence is totally shot, I had lost at least 3 showdowns with 2nd and 3rd nuts.

I think you answered your own question. If you are too gunshy from bad beats to play without seeing ghosts, cash in and call it a night.

Yes. You are ahead way more often than behind here. Any pp, any T, any 2 broadways might play the same as Button. There is only one other A out there. One of the hands you beat is much more likely than the ones that beat you. You want to get very aggressive on this hand, the habits of your opponent should guide you to which street that might be on. Maybe if you get capped on the turn, and raised on the river, you'd think about just calling. And don't go checking the turn ... they will be much more suspicious of the check-raise than if you just lead out.

Ha, maybe I'm overly paranoid of there being monsters under the bed because that's all I've seen in my 60 hours of playing.

Ok, I was thinking I shoulda 3bet the flop; if she caps then I guess I call. If I then bet the turn and she raises, would it be ok to call down from here? I mean, would she really be raising me with 10 x or pocket pair with 2 aces on the table?

She was new to the table, but the table was extremely passive; in my 3.6 hours there was only one or two pre-flop caps and none post flop, I don't think I can even recall very many 3bets if any. A raise usually indicated a good hand.

I'm guessing no? Especially with added bad-beat jackpot ante gleaned from the pot.

I'd just like to figure out this game well enough to play it for fun without losing my shirt; -3.4BB/hour seems horrendous to me, and in fact I've only walked away with a profit once in about 15 or so sessions.

Those hands will often smooth call the flop in that spot. But it really depends on how deep her thought process is. Smart players might raise because they expect action anyway and it's a big pot. Really really novice will just raise because they have a strong hand and don't think any further than that.

BTW: Not to be results oriented, but there was a monster under the bed. Her AQo had me beat the whole way.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching me.
