Opponent is tight, you think his range is AK/AQ/AA-TT

What's your play?
Fold pre-flop?

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Fnord is SB with 8, 8.
1 fold, UTG+1 raises, 6 folds, Fnord calls, 1 fold.

Flop: (5 SB) 8, K, A (2 players)
Fnord ???

With that range of hands and no cold callers, I let this one go PF.

As played... check, raise, cap? Call down after that?

Maybe bet/call flop, check/call turn & river? QQ-TT may have trouble getting too aggro with that flop, so I like a C/R to see where you're at, playing the turn & river from there. AA, KK, AK all play post-flop the same, I think. And you're at least beating one of them, so I think you have pot equity at that point to call down

If your opponent will raise you with only a pair here I think your best play is to bet out (think you are in SB if I’m reading it right), if you think you can 3 bet here you think that's the best line, is attempting a c/r a bettor line... either way I think it's correct to try and get at least one or 2 bets in on the flop here...

I think I would have called in this spot too to see a flop hopefully spike an 8, if I miss I think I would c/f…

Against an idiot I may recommend this line, but against a TaGG, which this guy seems to be, I wouldn't with no cold-callers (and thus less pot-odds). If the flop comes down undercards and you bet out, he raises, what's your line? You know (with this particular bettor) there's a good chance he has an overpair to your 8s, do you really want to call down or 3-bet, giving him better odds to call down even if he just has overs?

So you instead play for spiking the set - need 8:1 for this to be profitable. You're getting ~3:1 for the PF call. It shouldn't be that hard to get 5SB (6, actually, I suppose, to compensate for rake..) out of him if he has a good hand, thusly making the call profitable..

So I guess if your line is C/F with no set (even on a flop of unders) I suppose that line makes sense.

Then again, you spike your set in this situation... you're either way ahead or way behind with no good clue as to which. And that really hurts your implied odds.

Are there players who are really this tight? Jesus, how boring.

I bet that mofo - it's a set. See what he does, and grab my ankles and call down if he raises.

P.s. I really think there should be an anklegrabber icon. Anyone wanna work on that?

Fnord: I'll take "Hands I played that make me want to vommit" for $100 Alex.

Alex: Excellent choice, here is the answer...

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Fnord is SB with 8, 8.
1 fold, UTG+1 raises, 6 folds, Fnord calls, 1 fold.

Flop: (5 SB) 8, K, A (2 players)
Fnord checks, UTG+1 bets, Fnord calls.

Turn: (3.50 BB) 3 (2 players)
Fnord checks, UTG+1 bets, Fnord calls.

River: (5.50 BB) Q (2 players)
Fnord checks, UTG+1 checks.

Final Pot: 5.50 BB

Results:
Fnord has 8h 8c (three of a kind, eights).
UTG+1 has Th Tc (one pair, tens).
Outcome: Fnord wins 5.50 BB.

Fnord: What is a hand I should fold pre-flop?

Alex: Correct
