The bet on 4th seems fine, although I don't really expect it to accomplish very much.

Checking 5th seems good since you appear to be behind in both directions.

Checking 6th makes sense after bricking.

I might be tempted to raise the river if you think he can fold two small pair. His check on 5th street strongly suggests that he did not have a low made on this street, which means that he either has a high card in the hole or paired. If that's true, then by the river, the most unpaired cards below an 8 that he can have in the hole is 2. In this case, you have the best low hand and are freerolling with your bluff raise.

The bet on 4th was in an attempt to get the other possible low hand to fold since at best it has a draw to the 8. Once he did not fold I saw no reason to bet 5th

On 5th he may have made a rough 8 low and has checked fearing a better low.
I agree there is a very small chance of him beating me both ways in this pot, but I also doubt he is folding for a reraise here

Do you think he's going to fold 4 cards to an 8 for one bet on 4th? No one folds this hand on 4th street, and nor should they, because it's a bad play.

They might, I agree that if somone called with a rough 8 on 3rd he will probably call 4th as well, even if I hit good.

This may also (depends on betting order) give me a free card on 5th

You were in the bring-in, he probably won't give you credit for much of a hand even after you bet.
