I used to play mainly sit ans gos and the odd MTT for grinding my bankroll up. As slow as it was it worked, but after the last month or so, I'm a seven stud player for life.
I took my $500 roll and sat at a 1/2 table for an hour, left with $685.
Now I realised that this must be a nice lucky streak of cards and obviously not sustainable at this level for any decent period of time.
But I moved up to 2/4 regardless and the same happened again for about 12 sessions in a row. It struck me just how bad these stud players are.
I've seen capped pots for 6 streets and then folds on seventh with 4 players in. Truly terrible calls with four flushes on boards and much worse. Even calling on seventh when a player couldnt even beat a high card ace.
So, after about 2 weeks and 10000 hands, and a lot of analysis of my play, I realised I was making money at a much faster rate, and that even with variance occuring, I was well in profit. I didn't take this lightly either, and I checked a LOT of hand histories to see if I was playing well or getting rather lucky.
Now after about 5 weeks, I've progressed to the 5/10 limits with a juicy $5000 br, and I look set to move up and tackle 10/20, which I did tonight for a monstrous $1000 net profit in about 3 hours.
It's still sinking in how easy it seems even at the limits where players should know exactly what they're doing.
I apologise if this seems like I'm bragging. I'm trying not too. I just want to point out that anyone with a decent understanding of stud should really focus on it because the money is sitting there to be won.
It's also beautiful on stars for earning FPP's from the rake, and I easily reached goldstar this month wihtout realising it.
Good luck if you choose to try it out. I really recommend that you give it and go and see for yourselves that good solid play pays off big time.

Yeah, write a strategy post plz. Or at least table selection.
Are the 7cs players better or worse than the equivalent HORSE/HOSE?
I have been playing HO(R)SE because it keeps my attention better... but no way I could clear 90BB in an hour! That must have been one live game.
2/4 HO(R)SE players seem a little more active than 1/2... but small sample size.

Yeah I know about the 10k hands. I'm still tracking to make sure this isn't some very ncie variance at the minute.
Players at horse seem stronger I feel because they have to master each game to be a winner. These stud players think they know what they're doing and for the most part are ok, but like the idea of chasing draws and flushes far too much. Solid hand selection goes a LONG way.
It was as amazing game, I barely played any hands, but got called by complete calling stations the whole way through. They didn't even give me any respect for my very tight image of folding practically every hand given to me.
I'll deifinately start to complie some sort of stud strategy post. Log the hands first then I'll get back to you.

You're running good. Even if you have good starting hand requirements, you should still be losing fairly often at a showdown. Even when starting with a higher pair, you should be losing the pot over 30% of the time against a player who will chase to the river with a smaller pair. It takes a long time to overcome this kind of variance.
Also, the fact that you're criticizing your opponents for "chasing" straight and flush draws suggests that you don't understand the game very well yet. It is almost always correct to "chase" with 4 flushes and 4 straights in stud, and sometimes these hands are actually the favorite, making it correct to raise and reraise for value.

I'm no good at stud, but with razz (stud-lo) I've seen players call on the 5Th street with 2 face cards up, and the beauty about razz is that there are no draws. You make a hand and improve it. So its not often you get drawn out and you get donks who will call with no chance of winning (by 6TH street it is possible to be 100% sure you will win.

Oh no, the reference I was making to chasing draws wasn't about simply chasing flushes and striaghts.
Thats a perfectly correct play.
I mean chasing with a three flush and trying to hit it on sixth and seventh without even a pair or another draw

That's pretty amazing, it's just a great run of luck because like that other guy said, Stud can be much more of a drawout game, starting with the best hand just gives you a small edge that you need to push in the long run.

A bit of an update
I've not been playing too much poker recently due to university committments and other things, and I've also had to cashout around 50% of my br to pay for a lot of course fees and such.
Which has resulted in a drop to the 2-4 limit stud games
I'm still experiencing a very nice profit at these levels after around 25k more hands now.
I'll post some stats when I have some more time.

That would be great, I used to really like 7 card stud in high school years ago. I haven't played it in a long time though, and never online.

I love to read a review or mini guide.
The few times I've played stud I've gotten the idea that it is a game of huge variance.

I'd like to meet Jesus. Not because people claim he was the son of god, but because he could turn water into wine. A man like that is good to know, because you never know when you'll need a bottle of wine or an extra nail.

7 Card Stud can be an extremely complicated game, much moreso than holdem. I don't really know of any miniguides, but Chip Reese's section in the original Super System is excellent and reasonably short.
