These 7 Card Stud H/L tips will help you guys/gals improve your overall skills in all 3 Stud poker games.
Keep An Eye On Other Players’ Cards
When playing either 7 Card Stud or 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo, you always want to keep an eye on other players’ face up cards. This is a lot of free information available to you. Knowing what other players are holding is important because if you started with a middle pair such as 9’s and you see 2 other players have 9’s, you know that there aren’t any more 9’s left in the deck because there are only 4 of each number.
Know When And How To Scoop
Although most 7 Card stud players think it is silly to even mention scooping as a tip, there are many new players who don’t understand what scooping a pot is or how it is done. Scooping a pot is one of the most important things to know when playing 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo! Scooping the pot means that you take both the high and the low pots. Now, we are not telling you to fold if you don’t think you can scoop, but if you don’t think you have a chance at either of the pots, you should fold.
Have Patience
Patience is key with any kind of Poker, but even more so with 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo. When you are playing 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo, do not feel as if you have to play every hand. If you play every hand, you will get an idea of how to play, but you will lose more money in the end. So be sure not to get anxious, have patience and only play good hands and in the end you will come out on top.
Bet It When You Have
Because 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo is a fixed limit game, you don’t want to slow play your hands. If you are dealt a good hand, bet it all the way. If you try to slow play, you are allowing the other players the opportunity to get the cards they were drawing for and possibly draw a better hand then you. If you bet it when you have it, someone else who might have tried to limp would not be willing to call whereas if you let them limp in, they might catch their card.
Build The Pot
When you look down at your cards and they are not the hand you had dreamed of, don’t worry; get ready to build a pot. Above we told you about betting your cards when you have them because you don’t want other players drawing out on you, but if you are the player that is trying to draw out on someone else, don’t bet it. Call if you must, but keep it as low as possible to keep other players in the hand. That way if you do win in the end, there will be more chips in the pot!

Thats good general advice, however there are some quirks to almost each one of those
Keep an eye on the cards: Thats a basic one in this game, in order to be a good player you have to remember not only the open cards but also folded cards and villian's actions after each card is dealt
Scooping: Did not really get the tip here, you want to scoop, I think this is clear to even the most unknowledged beginner
Have patience: Cannot be stressed enough
Bet it when you have it: I dont think it is always correct, you want to maximize value, which is often done by betting and raising, but very often done by calling.
A good example of this is when you are in the middle with a low hand with the other players having both high hands, if the first player bets you often want to call rather then raise since you want the pot to be 3 way, same is true with one high player and another player chasing worse low then the one you have made, you dont want to scare people from putting in dead money
Build the pot: This is a tricky subject IMO, you want to have big pots when you have made hands, however very often you dont want to get the pot too big too early, since having a big pot gives people correct odds to chase; I think pot control is a very complex subject in this game
