our hand is almost always best, I don't see how we can fold to a bet, and there are lots of cards that beat us or kill our action. In addition many weaker hands will bet here thinking everyone missed and then may feel committed. You also might get bet/folds from weak flush/straight draws which is a nice equity bonus. If you bet out those hands may cold call and again either get away cheaper or outplay you later.

My line of thought was that I prefer to see a turn and push it on a safe card then have all sorts of combo draws calling me

I don't think they have combo draws too often since they should have some low cards in there. the safe card thing worries me because you have to be sure you're beat to give up on the turn with the price we have since we're drawing live almost always and people will over play high hands on this board sometimes.

I doubt someone will play overpair hard on a 5 way pot with coordinated board

However I agree that check-raise flop is probably the best line
