I am not fully rolled for 2/4 yet, but curiosity has gotten the better of me and I have taken a couple of shots just to see how good the game really is. I've been playin some 1/2 full ring and 6 max at party and a couple other places as of late.

2/4 is not a rock garden. In fact, I'd venture to say that in my limited experience, 1/2 is rockier than 2/4. 1/2 is just plain boring. Maybe table selection is important at 2/4 sometimes, but all the tables I've sat at have been consistently fishy. There may be 1-2 other TAGs at the table, 3-5 calling stations and then mix in a couple total maniacs at 75-90% VP$IP and it makes for good pokering.

I'm really close to moving to 2/4 full time, and probably won't play the party 1/2 game anymore while I continue to build. I just wanted to post my experience that differs from some previous 2/4 posts lately.

I play Party 2/4 exclusively right now. (Actually looking to try another room any suggestions). I only play about 1 to 2 hours a day so table selection is difficult for me. When I find a good one(s) I don't get to sit there to long.

The last week or so I really concentrated on getting at a good table.

I have run into a maniac at least once a day (65% VP$P). Usually another over 40% at that table. A normal good table has 2 to 3 players around 35% to 55%. 3 or 4 23% to 33% and 2 to 3 tights.

If you go down the avg pot size --- especially below 24 dollars, things really tighten up. No one over 40%, a few semi loose, and the rest Tights.

Just my observations

I would recommend wading slowly into 2/4 with the appropriate BR. You are correct table selection is very important...something I probably could have done better when I started there.

If you MT, you might do one 2/4 table and three 1/2 tables, and see how it goes. Then move to 2 and 2, and so on.

Be cautious as you move limits. The play might not be that much more difficult. But math still takes its course. If you aren't properly funded for a move, I'd suggest building more. All you need are a few beats early and tilted plays to set you back. Then you start making incorrect decisions because youre not thinking about the hand, but about the money. Not saying you're unable to move, I just hope you experience +variance before -variance.

2/4 is a cakewalk. When I have a bad day at 3/6 or 5/10, I just 8 table some 2/4 and i usually come out ahead. I have found 3/6 to be much more difficult and that is where table selection really comes into play. At 5/10 you dont really have much of a choice as the waiting lists are long at times so you cant be too picky about your tables. At 2/4 I just sit at a table with 4-6 players, wait for it to fill up and leave when 7+ rocks/multi-tablers get in. I always seem to get good tables because the fish love to play at the shorthanded tables, and once they fill up your table is pretty good.

fnord has expounded on this time and time again. 1/2 has a terrible rake and tons of tricky players who just checkraise, checkraise, checkraise, checkraise. it sucks. 2/4 is much much easier to beat as long as you have the bankroll. for whatever reason, people play more normally (and fishy) there.

if you want me to loan you some cash so you can start playing 2/4, PM me. anyone who can survive the horrors of 1/2 can kick butt at 2/4.
