I have just started playing 6Max limit almost exlusively. Starting 3-4 weeks ago w/ $65, I built my weenie roll playing low buy-in SnGs, micro-NL, and other various forms of cheap poker. My roll is now over $600, which properly bankrolls me for $1/2.

My questions are these:

(1) I have heard that some people advocate an additional 100BB's for 6Max / shorthanded play. Is this true? 300BB's seems like plenty, IMO. But I'd love to hear your opinions...

(2) The more I play 6Max, the more I realize how drastic the swings can be. This is fine, but what can I usually expect? 15-20 BB swings per session? More!?

(3) As a new member, I'm sure there are things I've missed. Any general pointers regarding 6Max play? No cold calls ... raise or fold from UTG ... lol. Anything else?

1)
300BB for 1/2, more than enough.
300BB for 5/10, maybe if you're extremely skilled and don't run bad.

2)
how long are your sessions? it doesn't really matter. but yes, on average per hand you'll be swinging more.

3)
yeah that pretty much sums up 25% of 6max play. the other 75% is reads and you learn that from experience.

300BBs at $1/2 is more than enough, but maybe not enough for $5/10. Where does $2/4 creep in?

As for the length of my sessions...
multiple sessions a day, avg. of 50-150 hands per table, 2-3 tables. I'm guessing that swings of 15-20 BB's woulsn't be out of the ordinary?

i was actually playing 1-2 6max with 500 bb for a while, and noticed i played VERY well because I wasn't thinking about the money at all.

15-20 bb is not a swing

100-150 bb is a swing

if you search for my wine post a couple months back on 2+2, no...100BB is not a swing either.

300BB is considered a "swing" worthy of sympathy.

ya it's possible, but i think variables like game quality, and the persons general win rate are questionable. Then again, I had a monsterous swing about 2 months ago that crippled me, but i will honestly admit I tilted some away after losing too much to luck.
