i read advanced poker by sklansky. After reading through it, i made a chart to decide when to fold, call and raise on preflop. its based on "typical" players. the chart basically summarizes what sklansky tells me to do. it took me awhile to make it. Example: i have T8 suited in middle position with no callers i'll call. 54s in late position with no callers is a raise. i will only call small nuts if i know there will be at least 5 callers, etc... i think my preflop strategy is pretty strong. since theres only 6 ppl at the table, i count early position as middle position when im determining a sklansky move. (since theres only 1 or 2 people ahead of me)

I will only bet on a flop if i have something. So usually i fold on flop, until i have something (i will bet with a flush draw, open ended straight draw, or a high pair. i will slowplay trips abit.)

i find alot of people playing against me will keep betting all the way to river with almost nothing, so when my playable flop comes up (about 1/3 times), i usually win against these types of players.

the problem is my money seems to be almost sitting still. I will make tremendous gains, and tremendous losses, but ive been playing for hundreds of hours and I feel the sloooow drain of my bankroll is simply due to the rake.

i play on fulltilt. why the hell cant i break this barrier? I feel sometimes that im playing perfectly, and i keep thinking that my bankroll should go slowly up because of the fish who bet hard with almost nothing.

and yes i have a rakeback plan so ill get some of it back.

sharks arent making money off me (if they are, it must be less than a dollar an hour because i can play 100 hours until i drain my $40). and im not making money off fish. i have no idea how to improve my strategy..has anyone ever been at the stage im at?

its really frustating.

The real money in Hold'em isn't made pre-flop. A lot of money is made picking up pots where no one has much of nothing (by betting out or showing down the better nothing.) Novices post stuff like "did I win the max here in this fluke hand where I flopped the nuts", but the value in getting that right isn't nearly as high as the value of getting weaker hands right. Consider, if we both come in with random hands 50% of the time you'll have the better hand at showdown.

Posting hand histories on here for review will help.

Additionally, any strategy that involves strictly following a chart probably isn't optimal.

Playing fit or fold at 6-max is a good way to break even.

Open limping, especially at 6-max, is usually incorrect.

It seems like you have some fundamental misconceptions about the game. Spend some more time reading and thinking about it and you will likely see some improvement.
TylerK: its just gambling if i want to worry about money i'll go to work lol
