Most of the folks who post here are (or soon become) familiar with tools such as VP$IP, PFR% and so on, and their importance. Is anyone interested in sharing some ideas on lesser known/used stats? One that interests me even though I can't quite figure out it's importance, is Percentage of Pots Won. For whatever it's worth, over my last 10,123 hands, I've won 8.94% of the hands I've played versus an average of 9.04 players. My BB/100 has skidded to 1.58. Everything being equal I "should" be winning about 11.06% of the hands I play (given 9.04 plaers per hand), but it's infrequent when I have even a single session where I win that often. My best sessions hit 13-14%, but it's not unusual to have a session with a win rate around 10 bb/100 where I'm winning fewer than an average number of pots. Any thoughts on the overall relevance of the percentage, if any, and does a given percent give any indication of strengths or weaknesses in a player's game?

Loose players win more hands, but they also lose more because they play more hands. Winning less than what you "should be" winning is normal because you're often playing with looser players. Imagine if you played 100% of your hands. You may win 15%-20% of all hands, but it will not make up for what you lose on your losing hands.
a better stat to look at is won when saw flop or won at showdown.

I don't know how useful total win % is. But a related stat, win % at showdown, can be a useful stat to show in a HUD to help determine whether or not you should go to showdown against a specific opponent. A higher win % at showdown naturally indicates that they tend to show down stronger hands. So you should be less willing to take a marginal hand to showdown against a villian with a high win % at showdown.

Good points.
Shark Bait--agreed. My VP$IP is 16.66, and that of my cumulative opponents is 25.51 so of course it makes sense they'll win more pots, but (typically) less money. Do you suppose in conjuction w another stat there might be some optimal pots won %? Just fishing here...
thenonsequitur--you and Shark mention other figures. Here are mine, for what they're worth--I've had PokerTracker for a while, but have just started getting into the meaning and use of certain stats:
W$wSF% 37.57
Went to SD% 35.63
Won$atSD% 53.64
Are the above three percentages in the reasonable/winning range? I've heard that Won$atSD% ought to be > 50...
I'm a little surprised that my Won$atSD% is as high as it is, since I feel the worst part of my game is chasing, especially after being raised or check raised on the turn.

Your won when saw flop is a little high, which is a clear result of your low VP$IP. Yes, you want your won at showdown to be >50%. But too high means you're probably folding a better hand too often on the river.
You can be a little looser than 16.7 VP$IP.
These are the easy stats though. Post your agression factor. If you feel that you're chasing too much, I'm sure it's too low.
