Am I smart or a lucky laggtard in this hand? I am pretty much an Omaha 8 newbie. I've played maybe a few thousand hands at the lowest limit ring games (.25/.50 and .5/1) and am probably down around 1 bet/100 hands. I've never played O8 in a tournament setting before.

Reads: my table was filled with horrible players.

PokerStars (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 4, 2, 4, 3. SB posts a blind of 75.
2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, Hero raises, Button calls, 1 fold, BB calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls.

Flop: K, 8, A (5 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets, Button calls, BB calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls.

Turn: 8 (5 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets, Button calls, BB calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls.

River: J (5 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, Hero checks, Button checks.

Final Pot:

Results in white below:
BB has 4d Kh 9d 2d (High: two pair, kings and eights).
MP1 has Qd Th Ad Kd (High: straight, ace high).
MP2 has As 2s Jc 6c (High: two pair, aces and jacks).
Hero has 4h 2h 4s 3s (High: flush, ace high).
Button has 6h Td Qc Ts (High: straight, ace high).
Outcome: Hero wins .
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

the raise isn't bad multiway, better if you held an A instead. The flop/turn, it's best that you're leading with your nut low draw in a multiway pot instead of the backdoor flush. I like the river check as you are competing with the (almost) lowest flush possible on a paired board.

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
You got lucky.

I would not raise preflop, I am looking for a cheap flop.
On the flop leading out with the nut low draw on a multiway pot is fine, but I would shut down on the turn and check-call.

BTW all the other players played this hand horribly

I agree with TLR. I would just limp preflop and hope for a favorable flop. Just about any hand that doesn't contain an ace is marginal in this game.

The flop bet is fine with the nut low draw, but you have to slow down on the turn since you're an underdog to win half the pot.

I was mostly trying to buy the button with my raise. I agree I probably just should have checked behind on the turn.

I think seeing the flop cheaply is more important than buying position when your hand really has no current value.
