In late position, unraised pot, and many limpers always call with suited connectors. That is the best time to play them because you do not want to go heads up with that type of hand, and you are getting the implied odds and pot odds due to the fact that there are several limpers. When your hand hits you'll get paid.
However, I understand in this particuar example you may have been correct to get out of the way if you had a strong feeling that the last guy would come in for a big raise.
I took some flak at a table yesterday for playing 52s on the button. Everyone limped and I hit 2 pair on the flop w/ str draw. Took down a nice pot and cry babies laughed about me playing 52. Hell that was actually one of the better hands I had seen last night.
