Happy man, I did some testing and I could subscribe / received e-mail notification. Please see subscribing bug

When you subscribed what did you do? I went to Thread Tools - Subscribe and selected Instant Notification via email. You can manage this under Profile - Subscriptions.

I'm not sure what I can offer for threads you were subscribed to in phpBB, sorry about that. You will have to resubscribe.
