One good reason to lead the flop other than giving a free card (which actually isnt as bad as we think, esp compared to NL) is that the often times a flop lead will induce the PFR to raise (often correctly) with his Ac. This should force out the two guys behind a decent % of the time and then you get to 3bet over the top which should also fold out the caller in between.

That way you get it HU and a much greater chance of winning the hand; I would probably take this line with sets + non nut flushes too. And if on the turn you bet and the guy who had been calling the flop raises then its just a matter if you have the odds to hit your 4 outer otherwise let it go. It would have cost you the same amount as you played here (5 big blinds) and it would be a more +EV way to play the hand IMO.
