$5 straddle makes your stack 95BB eff and you should treat it as such.

Somewhat. Effective stack size is also effected by players opening for 5x or more (and getting action), loose calls on early streets will also bloat the pot and reduce the effective stack size.
Anyway, the straddle's impact on the effective stakes of the game is somewhat mitigated because your opener that can expect to get action from worse hands and poor players will be a smaller multiple of the straddle than it would be of the big blind.
Measuring the size of a game/stacks just by the size of the big blind is often misleading and I agree that lots of "deep" live spots aren't really that deep when you consider all of the pot bloat going on.
