definitely check the legality of poker in Oman, and err on the side of caution. Oman is more liberal than most of the gulf states, but smoking sheesha in road-side cafes >>>> spending time in a Middle Eastern jail.
if you can somehow hook up with some expats with 4wds then getting out in the desert and down to the beach is amazing. I don't have photos here in Europe, but there are places to blow your mind.
