Spend a little time doing some math on river bets. How often do you need to win making a 1/2 PSB, 2/3 PSB or a full PSB to break even? How about to make money? Look at what ranges he has and how much FE you need to stab at this river. Making informed bets based on ranges, FE and pot size will make it ok to try and take down pots for pots sake.
Just an example to show how to figure it out. If he folds 35% of his range to a 1/2 PSB you will earn about $.50/hand in EV. How often are guys folding 35% after checking 3 streets? You figure it out.
