If you have A23, do you want people to have 4s or 5s showing since maybe they will have a weaker low draw, or not want that since they have some of your cards?

Do you follow the same general rules for draws when you play 7 stud hi?

I must say I learned Omaha pretty quick (at least how not to be super terrible) but the stud games feel like a much bigger adjustment.
Generally speaking going low - I look at the cards that I need to make a low (i.e not the 3 in my hand), unless I am the only one going low, I do not count the 8's, becuase having a low to the 8 with 2 going low sucks.
If I see more then 2 low cardss exposed it is a good reason to get out.
If there are only two but they are critical to me, for example I have 356 and 2 of the 4's are exposed it is also a big reason to fold.
I prefer to have cards that pair my low cards (when I have 3 low) alive, because sometimes you will make 1 or 2 pair and it will be enough, but unless I have an A it is not really a big factor in the decision whether to play or not.
If you are playing against another low, and he is not extra loose, if you both catch good on 4th and he bets it is a good reason to fold, you dont want to chase the 2nd best hand.

Even if you have A23 you dont want to see a lot of 4,5,6 there, because you need to make a low, and usually a 6 low wins, so A23 is better then A46 ofcourse, but not by that much. When you have A23 you want the 4 and 5 as live as possible.

Generally speaking 4 and 5 are key cards in this game becuase they are mandatory for any low straight.

Another thing that is important is that it is sometimes possible to make a very good assumption on the low hole cards of the opponent.
For example if villian has a 5 showing on 3rd street and you have a 4 showing, on 3rd a K showing raised and you both called, and on 4th the K got a J, you got a 3 and the 5 got a 2, the K bets, you call and he folds, it is very likely he paired is 2, so you can count for 2 dead 2's.

I play very little stud hi, but it is a totally different game, one of the reasons is that there are less players on average in each pot and smaller pots, it is not that bad in 7 stud high to chase a bit, when you play for the entire pot, and there is much less of a chance of someone 'accidently' outdrawing you. For example in stud hi-lo a lot of time a made low hand will hit the inside gut straight or a runner-runner flush because they are freerolling, in 7 stud hi people dont call with gutshut str8 if they know what they are doing.
