It isnt 4 of a kind plus pocket aces. Its 4 of a kind with and A kicker. Onlu one of the Aces plays since you have to make a 5 card hand.
e.g. if you hold AA and your friend holds AK then you tie. KKKKA
If you hold JJ and he holds 62 you tie. KKKKJ
If you hold JJ and he holds AQ you lose
KKKKJ Vs KKKKA
