Call it a fantasy, a dream come true, a railbirds paradise, or you can just call it the Poker Player’s Championship. Today is day three of this $50,000 entry tournament, the most prestigous poker tournament in the world. The buy-in is steep enough to limit the field to wealthy pros, and the 8-game deep stack format means only the most versatile, strongest players have a chance to become champion. Making it through the $50 Poker Player’s Championship is making it through a murderer’s row.

This year’s entrants numbered 128, a small drop from last year’s 134, and as of time of writing we are down to 34 players left. Everybody and their mama entered this tournament. Including Doyle Brunson, Tom Dwan, Phil Galfond, Bonomo, Helmuth, Matusow, Jean-Robert, Raptor Benefield, and the list goes on and on. The main exceptions were Ivey and Lederer, but Team Full Tilt had a solid turnout with Hansen and Antonius. And how could we forget about Daniel Negreanu. All the usual suspects were here.

The current chip leaders include Brian Rast, George Lind, Josh Arieh, and Scott Seiver, with the lead changing hands multiple times in the last few hours. Blind are up, and it’s a freaking blood bath out there. Notable names who are deep stacked still include Gus Hansen, Ben Lamb, and a little more towards the bottom we have Grinder Mizrachi.

The tournament is scheduled for 5 days so by the end of tonight the field will be narrowed down a bit more, with the final table set for Wednesday. The winner of this tournament is declared the greatest poker player on the planet. Having run since 2007 past winners include Chip Reese and Freddy Deeb. Last years winner, Michael “Grinder” Mizrachi is still kicking. With a prize pool of over $6 Million, first place will earn $1.7 Million, the biggest prize at this year’s World Series to date!
