Stone cold bluff

Stone cold bluff

A form of bluff where a player has no chance of winning the hand other than by getting other players to fold. Contrasted with other sorts of bluffs such as steals (where a party bluffs pre-flop in the hope of winning the blinds), continuation bets (where a party pretends to have hit the flop or flopped an overpair with a hand that justified a pre-flop raise), and semi-bluffs (where a party makes a big bet on a draw and can win the pot either through everyone folding or completing his or her draw if someone calls).

Example: "I knew he had pocket aces, but I decided that if the 3rd club came I would make a stone cold bluff and represent a flush."
