At a poker table, the seats are traditionally numbered starting at the
dealer's left and going clockwise around the table. Thus, in a typical 9 seat poker table, the seat to the
dealer's left is 1, the seats on the end of the table to the
dealer's left are 2 and 3, the seats across from the
dealer are 4, 5, and 6, the seats on the end of the table to the
dealer's right are 7 and 8, and the seat to the
dealer's right is seat 9.
Example: "I always feel cramped sitting right next to the dealer, so I try to avoid seats 1 and 9 at a table."
