A number of sites and rakeback affiliates run promotions offering extra money to the highest raking players during a particular time period - usually monthly.
These are called rake races.
Example: Two days to go in August and I am second in the rake race, and second pays $3k. I think it's worth putting in a couple of huge sessions today and tomorrow so that I don't get caught!
