A poker strategy that involves ensuring that the pot does not get too large when a player has good, but not great, hands.
Pot control is necessary in
No Limit because it generally makes sense to bet some percentage of the pot (in order to ensure that players with draws do not have the
implied odds necessary to
call) and thus without a
pot control strategy, players can end up having to bet relatively large amounts on hands that do not justify the investment.
Example: "Even though I thought I had the best hand, I checked behind on the turn to control the pot."
