Any of a number of poker variants where the pot is awarded to the player with the lowest ranked hand rather than the highest. What constitutes the "low" hand depends on the rules of the game. For instance, in some
lowball games, straights are not considered "low" hands and aces are considered "high", so the best hand is 2-3-4-5-7 (this is known as "
deuce to seven low"). In other
lowball games, straights are ignored and aces are low, so the best hand is a "
wheel", 1-2-3-4-5 (this is known as "ace to five low").
Example: Razz is stud played ace-to-five low, while Kansas City Lowball is draw played deuce to seven low.
