1) A rule in some cardrooms where a player can enter a table in the small
blind by putting in two big blinds (one dead and one live). The hand after this, the player gets to play on the
button (hence buy the
button).
2) A tactic used by players in late
position. A player in late
position would
raise to get the
button to
fold and play in last
position (the "
button").
Example: 1) I hate buying the button since I am effectively in for four big blinds with the worse position on the table.
2) I almost always raise from the cutoff hoping the button will fold. I love buying the button.
