Blocking Bet

Blocking Bet

A bet made that is relatively small in order to prevent your opponent from betting too much if you check and used for pot-control to keep the pot smaller. Players use a blocking bet in various situations like trying to draw at a flush or a straight cheaply or just keeping the pot small when you only have a one-pair type hand.

Example: The flush draw on the turn was perfect for me to use a blocking bet so I could draw cheaply and perhaps get a free showdown on the river.
