Ante

Ante

A mandatory bet paid equally by all players before the hand is dealt.

Example: In tournament play, ante's are usually introduced in later stages of play. For example the blinds are 200-400 and a 25ante. The small blind and the big blind need to pay 200 and 400 plus the 25 ante, which needs to be paid by all players. In this example on a 9 handed table the pot will be 1025 before the preflop betting begins.
