Texas Holdem Poker Books - Poker Books & Reviews
Welcome to FTR's poker books & reviews and poker book ratings section.
There are many very good Texas hold'em poker books on the market, and many veteran and educated poker players carry
the same foundation of poker books in their library. This foundation usually consists of the standard, classic
collection of poker book "bible's".
We at FlopTurnRiver highly recommend Sklansky's
to start off with.
This is a comprehensive poker book covering the game of LIMIT Texas holdem. Although I play no limit Texas holdem
poker, this book still contains relevant and insightful information for both forms of Texas hold'em.
Sklansky was the first to put together hold'em hand rankings and groupings, which many poker players have
adopted into their games.
David Sklansky's
is also an important poker book, providing general theory regarding all of poker.
Sklansky's Theory of Poker illustrates concepts applicable to various forms of poker, including five-card draw,
seven-card stud, Texas holdem, lowball draw, and razz (seven-card lowball stud).
This book really assumes you understand the basics of poker, and introduces you to the
Fundamental Theorem of Poker, its implications, and how it should affect your play.
The book covers the value of deception and slow-playing, bluffing and semi-bluffing, raising and check-raising, the value of position,
psychology and game theory, heads-up play, pot odds and implied odds, and the free card.
is considered THE "bible" of poker strategy books. This is the grandfather of them all. Doyle Brunson's Super System is not intended for the beginner player,
it is more geared to teach and evolve your game to that of a professional (aggressive style!).
Mike Caro, "The Mad Genius", and author of
,
is a colorful, knowldegeable, and understandable author. Caro's Book of Poker Tells is the original
and still the best book on poker tells. Although, this does not help with the online game, this is
a valuable resource if you take your game to a brick and mortar poker room (World Series of Poker anyone?).
Finally, Ed Miller's
has become an instant classic and must-have for the low-stakes Texas holdem limit
player. This book will make you a winning low-limit holdem player.
