We are itm and blinds are going up to 1000/2000 in 3 minutes which should be just after the blinds pass hero.
Bodog 5k guaranteed. Blinds: 750/1500. Antes: 150
Seat 1: 14,331
Seat 2: 8,655
Villain: 31,801
Seat 4: 17,259
Hero: 9,072
Seat 6: 13,455
Seat 7: 6,455
Seat 8: 14,964
Seat 9: 47,880
Seat 8 has the Button
***HOLE CARDS***
Hero is dealt [Ad8c]
UTG folds, Villain calls 1,500, 1 fold, Hero???
I felt like this was a very marginal spot. My problem is that if I pass up this spot the blinds likely pass me and then go up leaving me with 6k at 1000/2000. Villain has a range like 22-88, JTs-JKs, and maybe some smaller suited connectors. I have no reason to believe he is limping a monster or a better ace than mine. Normally I want to fold here and wait for a better spot, but I think I still have enough chips that I won't get called too wide by people behind me since villain is still left to act. I do not mind being called by villain who could fold some of the worse hands in his range since he is not getting 2:1.
Are you pushing or folding here? Also, what is your shove range in this situation? |

I would never pay the blinds here without shoving once |

it's definitely a leak if you're folding here without a solid read, with a hand like a8. off the top of my head, hands worth shoving here are KJ or KQ, probably A5+, maybe A2+, and any pair. with the pot size, your stack size, and the situation, it's ok to do something you'd normally consider marginal. you want to get your stack up, and this is an excellent situation.

this would make it an easy shove then. |

| Fwiw I did shove and was called by SB and UTG+ 1. SB bet the flop which was king high and UTG+ 1 folded so I think I had his range pegged. I am somewhat surprised by the shoving range dthorne gave since its much wider than what I would shove here, but the more I post here I am starting to think I am too nitty. Anyone else like dthorne's shoving range here? |
