Okay I'm going to show you guys how to figure out what rate you're pulling in VPPs on PokerStars using Poker Tracker. First, filter for the level you're playing, and preferably have a sample size over 20k. I'll use my 100nl full ring results so far this year for an example.
So, how do you earn points? From the PokerStars website:

First Frequent Player Point (FPP) is awarded for playing a hand in which the rake reaches:
* $0.40 for fixed limit poker games with stakes $1/$2 and lower
* $0.40 for NL/PL poker games with blinds $1/$2 and lower
* $0.40 for "1-on-1" poker games (this applies only to "1-on-1" tables, not to regular tables which have only two players seated)
* $1.00 for all other games
Second FPP is awarded for playing a hand in which the rake reaches:
* $2.00 for all 6-max tables (this doesn't apply for games being played 6- handed at 10/9/8 player tables - just 6-max tables)
* $3.00 for all other tables

So I go into Poker Tracker and filter for just 100nl full ring hands. This comes out to 21561 hands. Then, I go to the Game Notes tab, and hit the "Get All" button.
So for 100nl full ring, I want to know how many hands were raked for $0.40 and how many hands were raked for $3. Depending on your stakes and whether or not you play 6max, these numbers might be different. Use the quote above to know what you need to search for. But anyway, if I add these two numbers together, I'll know how many base points I've made in the sample of hands.
While still on the "Game Notes" tab, I'll type in 0.40 in the little box that says "Only show hands with at least [x.xx] rake" and hit the Filter button. Of my 21561 hands, 6868 had a rake of 0.40 or higher. Now I filter the same way for hands that had $3.00 of rake or higher. This comes to 786 hands. Now I add 6868 to 786 to get 7654 base points over my 21561 hand sample.
I think this should be a good enough explanation, but if it's not I'll do a more detailed post with pictures and more calculations and whatnot. |

| I don't think Poker Stars gives correct information. You get more fpps for tourneys, like one for every 20 cents, and I'm pretty sure they give you a FPP for every 40 cents total in rake, at least at the uber donk stakes. Otherwise I would have never completed two bonuses between 10 nl and 25 nl. |

Open PokerStars and go to cashier, then VIP status and find out how many VPP's you have earned, say its 10k. Then, go to Poker Tracker and go to preferences, and say from 1st of the month to last of the month. then divide # of VPP's/ #of hands played.
concrete example:
this month i have earned 6500 VPP's, and I have played 16k hands.
6500/16000= .406 VPP/hand. |

yeah but its not like you need a 100k hands to figure this out. and you can do multiple months when it is past January, just set it to since 01/01/08 on Poker Tracker  |

yeah but its not like you need a 100k hands to figure this out. and you can do multiple months when it is past January, just set it to since 01/01/08 on Poker Tracker |
Using either method, a higher sample is going to give you a better result. Anything under 50k hands is going to be off quite a bit.
Also some people like to move up stakes at some point in their lifetime, and if you play multiple levels then you can't get an accurate measure without using Poker Tracker as I previously described. |

Have you, (or anyone really) figured out how to do this in PT3?
There is no Game Notes tab. I can go the the hands screen to see all my individual hands, but only grouped into the 169 hands, and I can only figure out how to look at/sort one hand grouping at a time.
I also can't figure out how to filter these hands based on rake amount. |
