heres something that may/may not take off. i dont know. but, i got into a pissing match with my brother awhile back trying to name the most obscure Cardinals we could think of. names like Mike Laga, Tito Landrum came out and cracked us up.
but, in reality, we all know of some GREAT players that have lost their luster, too.
maybe
Vince Coleman
or
Richard Dent
or
William "the FRIDGE" Perry
or
my all-time favorite running back.....BARRY SANDERS #20
and his close 2nd..............................TONY DORSETT #33
pitchers.....NOLAN RYAN and GREG MADDUX (not that he's retired, hes just my favorite)
jump in. lets see who we cant remember. |

| Mario Lemeiux. Skates like a horse, too big to be knocked down, too smooth with the puck to be stopped, too injured throughout his career to ever hate him. He made everyone around him play at nigh-hall of fame levels. |

wow. i went out to mow some grass and thought i'd make a comment or two. i cant keep up with all this.....so much fun.
some of the names are KILLING me.
-Ultimate Warrior? how bout.....WOOOOOOOOOO! nature boy? or my personal favs......junkyard dog and hacksaw jim duggan. long shot for wrestling...king kong bundy and the bushwackers. YYYEEEEAAAAAHHHHH, m8!!
-chris sabo? looks like we got some big red machine wannabes. i like the nasty boys a lot!! good reference. how bout.....obv, johnny bench. or the pariah...pete rose (the original mr hustle)
-pavel bure? if you like sega hockey. dude could NOT be stopped. or felix "the cat" potvin? wow. what about cliff ronning? or mike modano? for you east coast philly boys....how bout roenick or lindros? maybe Rod Brindamour.
-basketball? mj, either one of them ought to be super obv. if you dont/didnt like jordan, i think you were a jazz fan...meaning you liked stockton, could be that youre racist if you dont like jordan. or if you dont like magic, you must be a bird guy. the penny reference was great. no Horace Grant fans? my crowd pleaser......Dominique Wilkins. only thing atlanta ever did right....well, him and SPUD, baby!!
-randall cunningham? i counter that with another short-lived, overrated QB....rodney peete (his wife is hot, btw, holly robinson? of 21 jump street where johnny depp got his big break.). but, if i'm correct, mine won the heisman. any DC boys out there that would be fans of Doug Williams or Theisman? remember the clips of his injury? still the sickest thing ive seen. i cant eat for an hour after i watch that. maybe John Riggins, Art Monk? i cant remember the chant they did in the endzone for the life of me, though. any helpers? another favorite of mine...
BO JACKSON. i saw him throw out a runner on a sac fly from the track in left w/o taking a step towards home. simply amazing. but, Brett was another perfect reference. although i also liked Greg Nettles and Rod Carew. well, carew counters Gwynn. but back to the one the Cincy boys will remember, of the 2 sport atheletes.....Neon Deion. and, now we've come full circle. so, i'll bow out for the moment.
you guys keep 'em coming. this is great fun. |

or it could be that you're just sick of him getting shoved down our throats for the last 15 years and the constant comparisons of every good young player to Jordan, or it could be that you hate superstar calls and your team is on the long list of teams that got jobbed by the Jordan Rules in the playoffs, which the Jazz are at the top of but they're not the only team on it. he's been retired for years already, just GO AWAY AND LET ME WATCH A GAME WITHOUT HAVING TO HEAR YOUR NAME GET MENTIONED ALREADY, baseball and football don't have one player that gets anointed as the best player of all time, why does basketball have to have one hatehatehatehatehate |

#1 Nolan Ryan - I still have several hundred Ryan baseball cards
#2 Ken Griffey Jr. - Before he started getting hurt, the 2nd best baseball player ever (behind Ruth). Also clearly never took steroids/HGH/whatever.
#3 Steve Largent - Best WR ever when he retired (and did it without size or speed) |

I'll forgive him his right-wing tendancies for the joy he brought me knocking Man Utd out of the FA Cup....infact Bartez made a similar pose when DiCanio scored against him!

no. do tell. thats what this thread is for. please enlighten me/us.
and as for the MJ comment about no other sport having the best ever constantly mentioned....
hmmmmmm.
this year. Tiger Woods v Jack Nicklaus. Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron v Barry Bonds v Arod. i would say those are/were fairly big stories.
hockey? can you ever hear anyone mentioned w/o comparing them to Gretzky? or Gordie Howe? NO.
soccer/futbol...Pele, at least here in the states. we are apparently (sarcastic) so educated over here when it comes to futbol.
boxing....Ali.
dont be so bitter, mcat, there's one in every sport. not just the one you got jobbed in the most.
btw, since you seem bitter, heres a pill for you. i think you owe us St Louisans your super bowl trophy. we didnt set up fancy equipment on the sidelines/stands to steal any signals/formations. if your Pats cheated now, they were cheating then. Bellichek is a farce.
j/k....just thought i'd stir the pot a bit. some people here in STL actually think that. oh, and they still want their '85 world series back from the Royals. they think the ump cost them the series with that blown call. they conveniently forget they still had game 7. or the rest of game 6, for that matter. same thing with the super bowls. its not like the filming gave NE an insurmountable advantage.
keep up the fun....good times. |

Sir Trevor Brooking: West Ham player his whole career. now works for the FA. Most gracefull English player i ever saw....
Paulo DiCanio: Mad Italian(bit of Nazi, but meh, all Lazio are). Scored the greatest volley ever. i was behind the goal. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
Julian Dicks: West Ham legend. played left back. Nickname the Terminator. Just watching him tackle someone was painful.
Theres a famous picture of him making "Hardman" Vinnie Jones cower in fear.....
as you can see i'm a bit West Ham biased....... |
